What is the Backtester
An explanation of what the Backtester is, how it works, and what each tab contains.
The Backtester is currently available in beta. To enable it, go to Settings in your User profile and enable "BETA features". You can backtest all of your template and bot settings, except for Triggers and TradingView Alerts.
The Backtester can help you optimise your trading results — even minor adjustments to settings can have a significant impact on profits. However, past performance does not guarantee future results. Backtests are also not a complete representation of your bot's historical behaviour, as bots check sell settings more frequently than the backtester (which checks every minute), and strategy checking moments may differ slightly.
You can only run one backtest at a time. Additional tests will queue. The number of daily backtests depends on your subscription:
- Explorer: 1 backtest per day
- Adventurer: 5 backtests per day
- Hero: 10 backtests per day
Having multiple subscriptions increases your daily limit by the same amount per subscription.
If you notice any bugs in the Backtester, please let us know by emailing [email protected].
Backtester tabs
Overview
The chart shows the total value of your assets during the backtested period. Below the chart you'll find the most traded currencies, average profit per currency, and average holding times.
Also shows detailed information on your buy and sell triggers, total number of trades, start balance, end balance, and profit or loss.
Trades
Shows all trades from the backtest — currency, market, buy/sell action, date, amount, price, costs, fee, profit, and trigger. Technical Analysis values at the moment of the trade are also visible. Note: trades based on signals or Marketplace strategies with hidden configurations will not display values.
Buttons above the trades:
- Calendar — filter by a specific period.
- CSV — download all trades as a CSV file.
- PDF — download all trades as a PDF file.
- Print — print all trades.
Use the search feature to sort trades by any displayed value.
Orders
Shows any open orders that exist while the backtest is running or after it completes.
Positions
Shows any open positions that exist while the backtest is running or after it completes.
Shorts
Shows open shorts during or after a test. When "Use actual profit" is enabled, the bot calculates shorting percentage profit relative to the original buy price rather than the amount saved through shorting.
Assets
Shows assets you still own during or after a backtest. "Balance" shows the value in your trading currency; "Reserved assets" shows assets in open orders. If you want more of your quote currency invested at any given time, adjust buy amounts in your Baseconfig and run a new backtest. Assets can be downloaded as CSV or PDF.
Notes
Add notes to your backtest results to track changes made to your strategy and record insights.
Log
Like the Output on your Dashboard, this shows everything the backtest has done. The backtest checks your strategy every 2, 5, or 10 minutes depending on the frequency you chose. Prices and other settings are verified every minute. A maximum of 500 logs are displayed — adjust your date range to view a different period.
What to consider
- A new backtest becomes available 24 hours after starting the previous one, regardless of your time zone. This applies to each backtest separately when you have more than one per day.
- When backtesting very illiquid trading pairs (low volume), profits and losses can appear extreme — the backtester does not account for the actual trades made on the exchange.
