Switching Trading Bot Templates With Triggers

This guide shows you how to automatically switch between Trading Bot templates using Triggers — and explains the key concepts and best practices for getting it right.

What are Triggers and templates?

Triggers are automated actions your bot can execute based on market conditions. Templates are saved bot configurations. Together, they allow you to automatically switch your bot's strategy based on market conditions — for example, loading a bearish template when the market turns down.

Before you start

You need at least two templates to switch between. You can create templates from your existing bot configuration or download them from the Marketplace.

To save your current bot configuration as a template:

  1. Go to your bot's Configuration.
  2. Click "Actions" ? "Save as template".
  3. Give it a name and save.

Repeat this process for each template you want to switch between (e.g. a bullish template and a bearish template).

Setting up the Triggers

You will need one Trigger per template switch. For example, to switch between a bullish and bearish template, create two Triggers.

Bullish Trigger — Load bullish template

  1. Go to Configuration ? Triggers and click "New".
  2. Give the Trigger a name (e.g. "Switch to Bull Template").
  3. Select your exchange and market (e.g. BTC/USDT).
  4. Select your indicator (e.g. EMA crossover) and configure it to signal a buy.
  5. Under "Trigger actions", select "Load template".
  6. Select your bullish template.
  7. Choose whether to overwrite or keep existing Triggers when the template loads.
  8. Set a cooldown period.
  9. Click "Save".

Bearish Trigger — Load bearish template

Repeat the steps above with these changes:

  • Configure the indicator to signal a sell.
  • Select your bearish template under "Load template".

Important best practices

Use the same indicator, exchange, and market for both Triggers. Mixing indicators or trading pairs between your bullish and bearish Triggers can cause both to fire simultaneously or unexpectedly. Always keep them consistent.

Overwrite Triggers or not? When loading a template, you can choose whether to overwrite existing Triggers:

  • Do not overwrite — the new template's settings are applied but your existing Triggers remain active. This is the recommended choice for a two-Trigger setup, as it ensures your switching Triggers continue to work after a template loads.
  • Overwrite — replaces all Triggers with those in the new template. Use this only if your templates include their own Trigger configurations.

Signalers and template switching If you use Signalers, make sure you are subscribed to the Signaler in every template your bot might load. When your bot switches to a template that doesn't have the subscription, it will stop receiving signals.

Test with Paper Trading first Before using template switching with real funds, test it using a Paper Trading bot to confirm your Triggers fire as expected under real market conditions.

Example setup
