Connect your Bot to Kraken
Creating your API key
Creating an API key is important, see it as a bridge between you and the exchange. Cryptohopper needs this bridge in order to do all the automated things you love such as, placing automated orders and reading your balance to do all sorts of calculations with.
Note: Please create 2 API keys. This allows Cryptohopper to make more requests, giving you a more seamless experience. Otherwise, it might result in connection errors.
Step one.
Go to the exchange website, and create an account if you haven't already. In this case, we are looking at Kraken.
Step two.
Create your API.
Click on your name at the top right corner of your website. From there on click on settings and finally API. On the next page, click on "generate new key". We recommend getting verified as well as possible to improve the functionality of Kraken Hoppers. The higher your verification level is, the more API calls you can make, resulting in fewer temporary lockouts.
Step three.
API key settings
The API of Kraken offers quite a lot of settings. Just keep in mind that generally speaking CH needs all settings except for withdrawal. Make sure to fill in a nonce window of 1000.
You can choose to have the key expire at a certain time, but it is not recommended.
Step four.
Adding the API to Cryptohopper.
Navigate to your cryptohopper account and find the baseconfig. From there on out, you can click on the tab labeled "exchange".
Select your exchange, fill in your API key and you are done!
Step five.
Adding a second API Key.
You might notice that there is room for two API Keys. We do recommend using 2 API Keys to circumvent the lower rate-limit Kraken has set for their API Keys. Using 2 API Keys will improve the trading experiencie.
Give the hopper a moment to link everything and your balance should be loaded.
Unable to see your exchange balance?
There are several things that prevents your hopper from synchronizing the funds of your exchange. In most cases, the browser that you use has "auto-fill" enabled. This means that the browser fills in certain text fields themselves. There are three things you can do:
- Disable autofill,
- Use incognito mode of your browser
- Use a browser that you don't use often.
- Another thing that could prevent your hopper from synchronizing are password managers, disable this for Cryptohopper.
And you're done! Check our community forum where users share their Hopper settings.
